EXTRA Program (10U & 12U)

Introduction

EXTRA is a program that offers organized soccer for 10U & 12U players who want to play at a more competitive level. Club soccer teams are place in many parts of the country, but for those who want to play harder and still be a part of AYSO, EXTRA is perfect.

EXTRA gives athletes whose interests and abilities lead them to a more progressive soccer experience. You can feel secure knowing your child is part of a trusted organization and will be given fair playing time. EXTRA doesn’t take away from the regular program, but adds to the strength of the organization by keeping players and their families in AYSO.

AYSO’s core philosophies are still in place: everyone on the team plays at least 50 percent of each game; selection to teams is based on open and fair evaluations; and the teams are chosen to create a competitive balance.

Key Details about the AYSO EXTRA program

  • A travel-style soccer program, with AYSO-trained volunteer coaches, that is played against other AYSO Regions in the Chicago area.
  • Players are rostered on the EXTRA team AND the primary core team (i.e. house team) and participate fully with both teams for games and practices in the Fall and Spring
  • The program records team records, tracks divisional standings and has a playoff format and tournament in the Spring
  • Player tryouts are free but, if selected for a team, you'll be required to register and pay for the upcoming season to lock in a spot.
  • The tryout schedule is listed below

The Season

The EXTRA team plays a fall season and a spring season, each consisting of eight weeks.  This program is focused on more competitive play with scores and standings tracked and posted. The EXTRA team will play other teams in the AYSO Region and may involve tournament play (additional fees may apply for tournaments).

Games
Each game is slotted for one hour.  Games are made up of four quarters, with a halftime, with a running clock which is kept by the referee on the field.  Each player should arrive early in order to warm up and go through a safety review before the start of the game in order to start the game on time.

Practices
Players who register assume an obligation to attend all EXTRA games each season and also to attend at least EXTRA practices each week, the time and location of which is to be determined by the EXTRA coach. The EXTRA team may practice over the summer in preparation for the fall season. Players who cannot make this commitment will miss out on advanced skill development, team strategies, and the enjoyment of playing soccer with their teammates. Each player should arrive on time, and be picked up on time.
